The meaning of the word career has changed immensely over the years..The average job seeker changes their career several times in their lifetime. I have coined the phrase Careermorph to describe my experience. It came about while watching T.V. with my son and watching the Power Rangers. You know mighty morphin power rangers. But anyway, my father would say work hard for your company for so many years so you can retire with a pension. So when you retired the company still paid you a percentage of your salary. Now I bet allot of you never heard of a pension. That is because companies have phased them out and now you pay for your own with a 401k plan. Their is no loyalty to a company or employee like in the good old days. Back then people got a job and stuck with it and companies rewarded you with a pension. I had a career in the airline industry. I was proud of my job and my company, my career. As the years went by my salary increased with my years of service. I spent 17 years and was expecting to retire, flight benefits and a nice 401k with company match. Yeah! Cutbacks, downsizing and my choice was stay and work for half my salary or quit. Now that was real loyalty...Soooo I took the furlough which paid me one weeks salary for every year of service and bye-bye. In my family I worked full time and my wife worked part-time. The only difference was her salary was more than mine..Now she is full time and I am Mr. Mom. I do not want to get into that experience right now..Fun at first but what an ego bruise. So over the last few years I have worked part time and read everything I can about working on the Internet. I have met allot of interesting marketers, but one stands out. His name is Mike from Profit Lance. Extremely nice guy that is actually willing to help. But you should visit his site. You will be glad you did...The moral of my story is to have a backup plan. Add another skill to your resume. When I was in high school everyone used to make fun of the guys who took shop. They were going nowhere. I wish I took shop. Good money and allot of opportunities for another skill. You need something to fall back on or even use it to change course of have a Careermorph. That's all for now. Plan for the challenges we may face. And as I drop my 7 year old off at school I tell him Have Fun.
